Who We Are
Our Beliefs
We affirm the Holy Bible as the inspired Word of God and the basis for our beliefs. This church subscribes to the doctrinal statement of the Baptist Faith and Message as adopted by the SBC in its latest version 2000.
We are members of the Sandy Run Baptist Association, The State Convention of North Carolina, and the SBC.
Our History
In 1899 bootlegging was running wild in the area. In response to that issue 5 churches (Mt. Pleasant, Camps Creek, Grassy Pond, Cherokee Creek and State Line) came together to form a new church in the community with that intent to take on the problem. Many people thought that the situation was hopeless and that they would never be able to affect the sale and manufacture of whiskey in the area. Nevertheless, they pushed forward. A group of 23 people got together 121 years ago and founded this church! They had a vision for a church to be a beacon to the community a time of great uncertainty in the world. On 9/22/1899, the church that became known as Prospect Baptist Church met for the first time and then on 10/16/1899 called their first pastor. The first church building was built in 1900 and was used until 1931 when the present church was first built and used with a Sunday School building being added in 1939. The original parsonage was built in 1943 and completed in 1944.The Educational Building as it currently stands was built in 1959 at a cost of $30,000. The current church parsonage was built in 1968. Since that time the church as ebbed and flowed over the past 50 years, but the church continues to persevere and grow today.
